Deftones' song "Xerces" is a single released from their 2003 album, Deftones. The alternative metal band's fourth studio album was released on May 20th, 2003 and was produced by Terry Date.
The lead singer Chino Moreno wrote the lyrics for this track with Stephen Carpenter (guitar), Abe Cunningham (drums), Frank Delgado (keyboards) and Chi Cheng (bass). The song "Xerces" features an aggressive riff along with hauntingly beautiful melodies that take the listener to a dreamlike state. It has been described as one of the most atmospheric songs in Deftones’ discography. According to Chino Moreno, he wrote the song about his sister who had passed away at a young age. He wanted to capture the feeling of loss and longing in the lyrics.
