Enigma is a German musical project founded by Michael Cretu in 1990. The band's debut album, Principles of Lust: Find Love, was released on 5 April 1993 and featured the singles "Sadeness (Part I)", "Mea Culpa" and "Principles of Lust".
It has been described as a mix of new age, ambient, world music and pop genres. The lyrics were written by Michael Cretu, Frank Peterson, David Fairstein and Andru Donalds. Enigma consists of members Michael Cretu, Sandra Cretu, Jens Gad and Andru Donalds. The album features an eclectic blend of styles that includes Gregorian chants, Middle Eastern rhythms, synthesizers and tribal drums. In addition to its popular singles, the album also contains a number of other tracks such as “Callas Went Away”, “Silence Must Be Heard” and “After the Rain” which feature poetic and philosophical lyrics. Since its release, Principles of Lust: Find Love has become one of Enigma's most successful albums, selling over 10 million copies worldwide and earning them numerous awards including a Grammy nomination for Best New Age Album.
